  1. DEFINITION OF SHAREWARE

  3. Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software before buying
  4. it. If you try a Shareware program and continue using it, you are expected
  5. to register. Individual programs differ on details -- some request
  6. registration while others require it, some specify a maximum trial period.
  7. With registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue using
  8. the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  10. Copyright laws apply to both Shareware and commercial software, and the
  11. copyright holder retains all rights, with a few specific exceptions as stated
  12. below. Shareware authors are accomplished programmers, just like commercial
  13. authors, and the programs are of comparable quality. (In both cases, there are
  14. good programs and bad ones!) The main difference is in the method of
  15. distribution. The author specifically grants the right to copy and distribute
  16. the software, either to all and sundry or to a specific group. For example,
  17. some authors require written permission before a commercial disk vendor may
  18. copy their Shareware.

  20. Shareware is a distribution method, not a type of software. You should find
  21. software that suits your needs and pocketbook, whether it's commercial or
  22. Shareware. The Shareware system makes fitting your needs easier, because you
  23. can try before you buy. And because the overhead is low, prices are low also.
  24. Shareware has the ultimate money-back guarantee -- if you don't use the
  25. product, you don't pay for it.

  38. to the user for evaluation. Feel free to share it with your friends, but
  39. please do not give it away altered or as part of another system. The essence
  40. of "user-supported" software is to provide personal computer users with
  41. quality software without high prices, and yet to provide incentive for
  42. programmers to continue to develop new products.  If you find this program
  43. useful and find that you are using TommySoftware CAD/DRAW and continue to use
  44. TommySoftware CAD/DRAW after a reasonable trial period, you must make a
  45. registration payment to TommySoftware. The registration fee will license one
  46. copy for use on any one computer at any one time. You must treat this software
  47. just like a book. An example is that this software may be used by any number
  48. of people and may be freely moved from one computer location to another, so
  49. long as there is no possibility of it being used at one location while it's
  50. being used at another. Just as a book cannot be read by two different persons
  51. at the same time.

  53. All users of TommySoftware CAD/DRAW must register and pay for their copies of
  54. TommySoftware CAD/DRAW within 30 days of first use or their license is
  55. withdrawn. Site-license arrangements may be made by contacting TommySoftware
  56. or the distributor stated on the registration form.

  58. Anyone distributing TommySoftware CAD/DRAW for any kind of remuneration should
  59. have a look at the file VENDOR.TXT, which contains detailed information on
  60. that subject.

  62. You are encouraged to pass a copy of TommySoftware CAD/DRAW along to your
  63. friends for evaluation. Please encourage them to register their copy if they
  64. find that they can use it. All registered users will receive a bonus disk and
